SI ISO 14001 - Environmental Management Systems (EMS)

The growing awareness to the topic of environment in Israel and the world (consumers / stakeholders / investors / authorities), and the legislation derived from this, presents the organizations with a requirement for commitment to the topic and involvement in protecting the environment.
Certification by the Standards Institution of Israel for environmental management (in accordance with requirements of the Israeli and international standard
SI ISO 14001) demonstrates that the organization takes measures to realize its commitment to the environment, something that is expressed in manufacturing, in service and maintenance operations. Certification is suitable for any organization.

Environmental Management SI ISO 14001 will enable the organization to:

  • Identify and manage environmental aspects.
  • Identify, evaluate and implement processes for handling and ongoing prevention  of environmental aspects.
  • Define environmental  objectives and plans to achieve them.
  • Identify and verify compliance with legal requirements, regulations and relevant standards.
  • Reduce costs of energy consumption for waste management.
  • Drive improvement processes (even beyond basic compliance to the requirements).
  • Transition to effective and efficient work processes.
  • Assure customers and stakeholders that the organization considers caring for the environment to be of high priority.

Auditors from the Standards Institution of Israel will assist in verifying that the organization’s environmental management meets the standard’s requirements and what are the needed improvements.
It is recommended, as part of the certification process, to also incorporate Quality Management (according to requirements for SI ISO 9001), to create overall effective management in the organization.

The path to certification

Certification is done after implementation of an intra-organizational process, in which the organization’s environmental management system, per the standard requirements, is successfully implemented. In order to start the process, it is recommended to purchase the standard at the Standards Institution information center, to learn the requirements and to participate in appropriate training. Additionally, consultants that specialize in environmental management can be used, and the Standards Institution of Israel can conduct a preliminary audit to identify gaps.
The process should be seen as an opportunity for improvement by a team from the organization that will receive support and involvement of management. At the end of the process, auditors of the Standards Institution of Israel, will perform certification audits that confirms that the organization’s environmental management system is appropriate.
