SI ISO 22000 - Food Safety Management

Today consumers are aware of the dangers of eating unsafe food.

Requirements from private consumers or retail chains and especially European & American and other retail chains, require implementing food safety management systems. Effective implementation ensures that organization has done its best to reduce the possibility people will be harmed by the products it supplies.

ISO 22000 includes the requirements for HACCP, and requirements such as defining a prerequisite program (PRP) for safe production, identifying risk factors and dealing with them, ongoing improvement, communication with interested parties and more. Certification is appropriate for any organization that is interested in improving the safety of the food it manufacturers, and is relevant for the entire food-chain and organizations that support the chain such as logistics installations, packing manufacturers.

The Standards Institution of Israel also certifies the following services:

The Standards Institution of Israel cooperates with the American NSF for the HACCP standard and in cooperation with the ISACert Company for ISO 22000. It is recommended, as part of the certification process, to also incorporate a Quality Management System (according to requirements for SI ISO 9001) in the organization.

Certification for Food Safety Management System will enable the organization to:

  • Identify and manage hazards for safety in food.
  • Consistently and methodically define handling and preventive processes.
  • Comply with relevant legal requirements and standards.
  • Reduce costs over lost materials and recalls.
  • Drive ongoing processes for improvement (even beyond basic compliance to the requirements).
  • Transition to effective and efficient work processes.
  • Assure customers and stakeholders that the organization places high priority on ensuring Food Safety.

Auditors from the Standards Institution of Israel will assist you in verifying that the organization’s Food Safety Management system meets the requirements and what points need improvement art various levels. The organization must conduct HACCP research, and identify, maintain and meet the requirements of the relevant legal and standards.

The path to certification

Certification is done after implementation of an intra-organizational process, in which the organization’s food safety management system, per the standard requirements, is successfully implemented. In order to start the process, it is recommended to purchase the standard at the Standards Institution information center, to learn the requirements and to participate in appropriate training. Additionally, consultants that specialize in food safety management system can be used. XT Standards Institution of Israel can conduct a preliminary audit to identify GAPS.
The process should be seen as an opportunity for improvement by a team from the organization that will receive support and involvement of management. At the end of the process, auditors of the Standards Institution of Israel, that are independent, will perform the certifying audit that confirms that the organization’s food safety system is appropriate.
